The Daily Iowan’s Pregame editor emeritus and Pregame editor-to-be — Cody Goodwin and Danny Payne — give their predictions on how a select group of former Hawkeyes will fair in this weekend’s NFL Draft.
DP: No. 9 to the Giants for Mr. Scherff. I’m excited to see how Scherff goes from living in Iowa to taking on the Big Apple.
CG: First round, of course. But how high? He’s hovered around 10th or so in every Mock Draft I’ve read today (St. Louis has the 10th overall pick). My roommate is a Rams fan, and I know he’d love to see Scherff on that line.
DP: Might be a bit of a stretch, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to the Packers at No. 30. They seem to love Iowa guys. More realistic, I’m thinking second round. Dallas at No. 60 wouldn’t surprise me, neither would Miami at No. 47. I’m saying this because I know Davis has visited with both the Cowboys and Dolphins, for what that’s worth.
CG: I like Carl to go in the late second/early third round. But having said that, I don’t think we should overlook the possibility of him going to New England at 32nd overall. The Patriots let loose Vince Wilfork, so they’ll need someone big and athletic for Belichick’s defense to work at full capacity. (Full disclosure: I don’t think it’ll happen, but it’s a fun thought.)
DP: Donnal will get a shot somewhere — you can never have too many quality offensive linemen at any level. He’ll be a Saturday pick for sure, if I had to put money on it, I’d say fifth round.
CG: NFL.com has Donnal projected to go in the fifth or sixth round, and I tend to agree. He’s not a highly-touted prospect, but because he was an offensive lineman at Iowa, teams will definitely give him a look.
DP: I trust @hawkeyegamefilm on Twitter more than most people, so I’m going with his gut with LTP at 183 to the Bears. Would love to see Louie as a depth-guy in the rotation, mostly because my Bears will be awful and I need something to keep me distracted from all the losses.
Iowa Draft projections: Brandon Scherff(9-Giants), Carl Davis(61-Colts), Andrew Donnal(158-Ravens), Louis Trinca-Pasat(183-Bears)

CG: I like LTP to go in the seventh round — maybe even to Green Bay at 247 overall. Former Hawkeye players have done pretty well there, I’d say.
