The Iowa men’s golf team is ranked 26th in the first edition of the 2014-2015 Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. The Hawkeyes are the second-highest ranked Big Ten Team. Sophomore Carson Schaake is the highest ranked individual at No. 60. The poll ranks 262 teams.
It’s no surprise Iowa is ranked high after an impressive start to the season. The Black and Gold finished third of 12 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge from Sept. 14-16, followed by another third place finish at the Windon Memorial Classic from Sept. 21-22, which consisted of 15 teams. Both tournaments were three rounds.
Iowa has a 20-4-1 record this season in head-to-head results at these tournaments. This includes a 12-4-1 record against top 100 teams.
Schaake’s ranking comes courtesy of top five finishes in each tournament. He tied for fifth at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (71, 73, 71) in addition to tying for fourth at the Windon Memorial (72, 69, 68).
The Hawkeyes will return to golf on Oct. 11 at the two-day Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, North Carolina.
