Being incredibly close to the stomping grounds of the marching band and soccer fields has transformed from an unwelcome annoyance to something of an advantage for the University of Iowa women’s golf team.
“The band and games kind of brings a little liveliness to practice. Something’s going on in my brain where I’m just shutting everything out. I think it’s kind of fun for us,” junior Briana Midkiff said.
Along with brightening the atmosphere, the sounds have helped the team learn how to block out distractions in their game.
“I would definitely say it’s an advantage if you can focus in on the specific shot you’re hitting and not really worry about outside factors,” senior Nicole Rae said. “The noise is a big advantage for us at practice.”
