CHICAGO — It’s well known by now that Iowa’s Brandon Scherff, arguably the best offensive lineman in the country, played quarterback when he was in high school. And if you didn’t know, now you do.
It’s a fact known well enough that an ESPN Blogger asked Scherff about it on Tuesday during the 2014 Big Ten Media Days here in the Windy City. And what came of it was an idea that seems both entertaining and intriguing:
Iowa OT Brandon Scherff, a high school QB, says he can throw the ball 50 yards. Wants Iowa to run a tackle pass trick play this year.

So, of course, we asked Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz what he thought of the idea (knowing full well that the odds weren’t in Scherff’s favor). He laughed, and offered this response:
We might consider it with him. … I might take that one back to the staff and see if I can come up with something.
For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t put too much stock in this one, but it’s fun idea to think about.
